Methods: Turkey Demographic and Health Survey (TDHS), which is given every 5 years, was used as data source in this study. The universe of 1993-1998-2003-2008 TDHSs was those women who were ever married and aging 15-49 years old while the universe of 2013 TDHS included all women between 15 and 49 years old. A weighted, multi-stage, stratified cluster sampling approaches were used in the sample selection of these surveys. 6519 interviews in 1993 TDHS, 8576 interviews in 1998 TDHS, 8075 interviews in 2003 TDHS, 7405 interviews in 2008 TDHS, and 9746 interviews in 2013 THDS were made with women meeting sample criteria.

Results: The rates of modern family planning methods were 34.5%in 1993, 37.7%in 1998, 42.5%in 2003, 46.0%in 2008, and 47.4%in 2013. The utilization of modern family planning methods were found to be lower among those who were 15-19 years old, illiterate, not working, not having any children, living in rural areas and in Eastern parts of the country. The rate of method utilization was shown to increase consequent to the Health Transformation Programme and Family Physician Implementation.

Conclusion: It is necessary to deal with various barriers confronting utilization of modern family planning methods, and the benefits of method utilization must be explained to the women.
