Objectives: Employees’ performances are affected by their attitudes towards their organizations. Especially in health care organizations, all kinds of organizational variables affecting the employees performance must be determined. However, the effect of organizational cynicism, which is one of the negative attitudes of employees towards the organizations, on healthcare professionals performance is unknown. It was aimed to reveal the correlations between performances of nurses and their cynical attitudes towards their organizations.

Methods: The data were collected from 240 nurses working at five hospitals selected from public and private sectors between March and May 2015 by using Introductory Information Form involving seven questions, Organizational Cynicism Scale, and Nursing Performance Scale. The data were analyzed by using psychometric, descriptive, and correlational analyses. Approvals of ethics committees, institutional permissions and informed consent from voluntary nurses were obtained in order to conduct the study.

Results: As a result of the study, it was found that the nurses assessed their performances as high and their cynical attitudes towards their organizations as moderate and there was a very significant negative but weak correlation between performances of the nurses and organizational cynicism.

Conclusion: Even though cynical attitudes of nurses towards their organizations affect their performance negatively, it is recommended to develop strategies that aim to increase work and organizational engagement in order to prevent cynical attitudes in organizations.
