Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Current Applications
Ümit Aksoy Özcan
Acibadem Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul, Türkiye Since breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has higher sensitivity than any other breast imaging modality, it is widely used for the screening, diagnosis and staging purposes. If breast MRI is obtained with the proper technique, it is useful in the pre-operative assessment of patients diagnosed with breast cancer or for the neoadjuvant chemotherapy, as a problem solver in cases which remain equivocal after thorough evaluation with the other radiological modalities, as a screening method for women with high risk of developing breast cancer, in the evaluation of post-operative breast, mammoplasty, implant evaluation, and after reconstruction, since it helps decision making in patient management. This review aims to evaluate the indications of breast MRI while discussing the current guidelines. Keywords : breast, cancer, magnetic resonance imaging, screening
