The numbers of both state hospitals and private hospitals are increasing day by day. Due to the fixed market of national patients, nowadays, there is a great challenge to survive in health sector. Turkey has great potential for health tourism with its geographical location, climate, thermal resources, natural beauties, qualified medical personals and hospitals endowed with high technological equipments. According to the 2011 data, world market of medical tourism was approximately 400 billion dollars. In this research, while revealing the current status of Turkey in this global market, we aimed to do necessary suggestions and regulations in order to increase Turkey's place in this market in future.

Data related to these patients were obtained from the records of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Culture and Tourism. During 2010, via health tourism 109,678 patients came to Turkey (To private hospitals, 77,003; state hospitals 32,675). Distribution percentage of international patients shows great range according to their nationality and taken-health services.

Besides state hospitals, the numbers of private hospitals is also increasing day by day and take an important place in this market. In order to increase market in health care, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Culture and Tourism should give importance to health tourism. This way, foreign currency income will lead to increase health care market. New job opportunities will decrease the unemployment. In order to survive in power in health care sector, health tourism is becoming more important day by day.
